For many families, the home is the best way to show off personal values and creativity. Homeowners often entertain a variety of guests, especially around the holiday season, so a great way to highlight a living space is by creating a welcoming and friendly environment for these visitors. Most contemporary homes are designed with a guest bedroom and bathroom, and by following some simple tips, it’s possible to create a warm and nurturing environment for house guests, visitors, and anyone else you are welcoming into your home.
Build it Conveniently
For many visitors, a guest bathroom can be a central part of their experience. It’s important for the bathroom to be as close to the bedroom as possible, preferably adjacent to it; if the bedroom and bathroom are distant from each other, a visitor may not feel comfortable showering or cleaning up in the morning. By having these rooms close, a guest will feel more like they are in their own home, and will have a more comfortable experience. Also opt to have a full bathroom available for guests if there is sufficient room. Many visitors may feel awkward using a family’s shower facilities, and won’t feel comfortable leaving their toiletries and shower products in the bathroom.
Use a Welcoming Design
When designing a guest bathroom, it’s important to choose a simple and neutral color palette. Many bed and breakfasts use a white or muted-color theme: these create a comforting and clean feel for guests. Counter tops, tiling and faucet fixtures should all compliment each other, so that the room looks organized and doesn’t become disorienting. Then linens and bathroom accessories can easily follow suit, with simple but comfortable towels available for guests.
Provide Extras
Creating a toiletries basket can be a great way to provide a guest with helpful products in unused condition. Many retailers sell travel sized items, including shampoo, body wash, toothpaste, shaving cream, and toothbrushes. If a guest forgets any of these, having these available will save them a trip to the supermarket. Extra towels and toilet paper can be stored under the sink, and to really spoil them, consider providing some fluffy bathrobes and scented candles.
Traveling during the holiday season can make any guests stressed and uncomfortable, so creating a welcoming environment will not only help them enjoy their visit and be more relaxed, but will show that you truly care about them.
